Experience the Legendary National Christmas Tree
Rich in tradition for over 100 years, America’s Capital has put the heart and soul of Christmas on display with its cherished National Christmas Tree. Featuring one-of-a-kind ornaments made by Americans in every state, territory and from D.C, this event is sure to dazzle. Stunning ornaments acknowledge America’s rich diversity while inspiring awe, hope and peace. This beautiful annual treasure is free to visit. The official ceremonial lighting took place on November 30 and was hosted by American country artist Mickey Guyton. This year featured Darren Criss, Samara Joy, Ledisi, Reneé Rapp, St. Vincent, Joe Walsh, and Dionne Warwick. The ceremony also featured performances by the United States Coast Guard’s Guardians Big Band. If you missed the occasion, you can still enjoy it from the comfort of your home; in partnership with NPF, CBS will broadcast the 2023 ceremony on Friday, December 15 (8 p.m. EST/PST) on the CBS Television Network, and available to stream live on Paramount+.
Be Dazzled at the World’s Premier Chanukah Celebration: The National Menorah
Internationally touted as “the most prominent public Chanukah event in the world,” this year’s National Menorah lighting ceremony will ignite the warmth and deep tradition of Chanukah. The annual lighting ceremony commences December 7 and launches the celebration of “The Festival of Lights” across America and in over 100 countries globally. Expect to be treated with latkes, doughnuts, menorah kits and dreidels. The United States Navy band will perform a unique soundtrack. Furthermore, in full tradition, a fresh candle is lit during each of the eight days of Chanukah.
The first lighting ceremony hosts a plethora of prominent guests including the President, Vice President, members of the Cabinet, Congress and the diplomatic corps, along with international dignitaries and celebrities.

Be Enchanted with “Season’s Greenings” at the United States Botanic Garden
The United States Botanic Garden’s “Season’s Greetings” holiday display is an exquisite way to revel in natural beauty and feel the joy. Festive lights and holiday decor adorn the gardens along with incredible displays. Enjoy the model trains in the gated outdoor garden, stunning poinsettias, and the most amazingD.C. landmarks made from plants. This year’s display showcases G-model trains traveling throughout pollinator displays made of plants. Some of these exciting plant-based artworks include oversized models of native U.S. flowers, a bee pollinating a flower, butterflies, bats, and a chocolate midge pollinating a cacao flower! Celebrate the Annual ZooLights Tradition
The Smithsonian’s National Zoo transforms into a winter wonderland again this year with ZooLights. This year’s festive tradition is brighter than ever with over half a million environmentally-friendly LED lights and illuminations. The family-friendly immersive experience radiates with lantern displays of ocean, deserts, rainforests, among other animal habitats.
