Blooming Festivities: Virginia’s Top Spring Celebrations
Happy Spring! March 18th marks the first day of the season, and we’re excited to celebrate the beauty and activities Virginia has in store. Join us as we explore the top attractions for fantastic spring festivals, showcasing the unique splendor, history, and culture of the region during this hopeful and rejuvenating time.
Bluebells at Riverbend Park
Uniquely located on the Potomac River with a special combination of geology, plant life, and wildlife, the Bluebells at the Bend Festival brings extra fun to this spectacular area. This popular spring event celebrates the Virginia Bluebells that cover the riverbanks in early April. The festival features wildflower walks, arts and crafts, live music, special exhibits, food trucks, and more family-friendly fun.
Situated in Great Falls at Riverbend Park, the festival starts at 10am on April 6. Tickets are $10 if purchased in advance and $12 at the door.
Can’t make the festival? You can also visit the park and hike one of four different trails ranging from 1 mile to 2.5 miles. Take an adventure on the Potomac Heritage Trail to enjoy spring wildflowers, or follow the Hollows Trail, Bootlegger Trail, and Madison’s Escape Trail. Get your park map and plan your route at the visitor center to truly enjoy the day!
Mount Vernon Spring Wine Festival & Sunset Tour
Step into springtime bliss at the Mount Vernon Spring Wine Festival & Sunset Tour, the historic home’s most beloved event of the year! Indulge in unlimited tastings of Virginia’s finest wines while lounging on the picturesque east lawn, with stunning views of the Potomac River. Relax to the soulful tunes of Bruce Ewan and the Solid Senders, and explore the Historic Area after hours. Doors open at 6 p.m. each night, with The Shops at Mount Vernon and Wine Valet Service available until 8:45 p.m., and Mansion tours until 8:30 p.m. Don’t miss this enchanting evening of wine, music, and history!

Alexandria Historic Homes & Garden Tour
The 91st Annual Alexandria Historic Homes & Garden Tour Tour offers a delightful array of garden installations and a plant sale at 5 private gardens and 6 public properties. Explore Old Town Alexandria‘s charming streets adorned with beautifully decorated flower boxes, doors, and gates.
Inside the magnificent homes featured on the tour, you’ll discover original hardwood floors, stunning landscaping, antique furniture, and hidden swimming pools. Don’t miss the opportunity to explore lovely backyards and relax on picturesque covered porches.One of the tour’s highlights is the sight of large, colorful front doors lining the historic cobblestone streets.
Mark your calendars for the 2024 Old Town Alexandria Garden Tour on April 20th, from 10am to 4pm. Secure your tickets in advance for $55 or purchase them on the day for $65.

Leesburg Flower & Garden Festival
The acclaimed Leesburg Flower & Garden Festival solidifies its spot as an annual ritual for Virginia and DC residents alike. Rain or shine, this free event is open to the public on Saturday, April 20th from 10am-6pm and Sunday, April 21 from 10am-5pm.
Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival
The annual Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival in Winchester is one of Virginia’s largest and oldest festivals, spanning over 10 days from late April to early May. Now in its 96th year, the festival has expanded to include a variety of exciting events such as a wine festival, a carnival with midway rides, a golf tournament, an apple pie baking contest, a fun run and 10K race, the coronation of Queen Shenandoah, the Queen’s Ball, spectacular fireworks, the world’s largest firefighters’ parade, and the official Grand Feature Parade. Live music and delicious food are also featured throughout the festival. Enjoy the festivities from April 26-May 5th in Winchester.
